Braintrust is a user-owned Talent network that provides access to high paying jobs with no fees, career advancement, and opportunities to develop ownership within the network.
The jobs we currently have on Braintrust are geared toward certain roles that require a certain level of experience. By having all Talent go through a simple screening process, we ensure that we are able to build a community that is able to meet those specific needs and will be able to find the jobs we post relevant.
This guide takes you from filling out your profile and applying to your first job to going through the screening process and becoming approved Talent.

Learning about Braintrust.
Still unsure of what Braintrust is? That’s okay! You can:
- Learn more about how we work
- Read about some of Braintrust's benefits
- Access resources
- Reading the blog
- You can also follow us on Twitter

How to sign up.
When you’re ready to get started, head to our sign up page.
Fill out your name and let us know all the reasons you would like to join the network, from building your career and connecting with others to making referrals and earning $BTRST.
You’ll be asked what you’re most interested in, with choices ranging from professions (Design, Engineering, Product) to sectors (Web3, Freelancing) and professional development (Career Advice, Mentorship, and Mentoring).
Finally, set your email and password, agree to the terms of service and privacy policy, and click the big black shiny button!

Completing your profile.
After you’ve verified your email, you should now be in the Braintrust app. You can immediately start exploring new opportunities: see the “Search Jobs” bar.
Most importantly, you’ll see a progress bar showing that your profile is incomplete.

You’ll need to get your profile to 100% before you can start applying to jobs.
Add Name/Add a Location
Add your full name, keeping consistent with your LinkedIn profile and resume. You can also add your location, as well as your personal website, LinkedIn, Github, Twitter, and other user handles.
Add your Role/Role Skills
Choose from Engineer, Designer, Product Manager or “Other Creative.” Once you’ve selected your role, you can define the “type” of role from a list of dozens of professions. Learn more about role types offered at Braintrust.
What if I have experience in multiple roles?
Set the role that best fits your current career interests and the types of jobs you would like to apply for — you will still be able to apply for other roles on Braintrust, regardless!
What if my role isn’t listed?
We try to cover as many roles as possible in the profile completion process, but recognize that some may not be included. Try to find the role that is most similar to your current role, or the types of roles you are most interested in applying to on the platform.
Why can’t I submit my own unique role?
Braintrust is committed to building a vibrant community of Talent and clients. If a certain role isn’t listed, it might be because we don’t yet have enough of those types of jobs or Talent to ensure a successful partnership for all involved … but stay tuned, as we are rapidly expanding opportunities within our network!
Add your skills and select your top skills.
Select at least 5 skills from those listed, and define your top 3 skills as “Superpowers.” These skills reflect what you are best at, and can help you stand out with clients looking specifically for Talent who have those skills.
Make sure to press save when you’re done!

Add your work experience and years of experience.
Just as you would on your resume, go ahead and list some of your past jobs, including your title, company, start/end dates and a description of the type of work you did there.
If you need help on how to position yourself, check out some of our past profile writing guides.
Finally, select your years of experience, and you are ready to start applying for jobs and getting approved!
Applying to your first job.
Once your profile is at 100% it’s time to apply to your first job!
That might seem counter-intuitive: After all, you still haven’t technically become Approved Talent. However, our reasoning is simple: While we continuously add opportunities to the platform, we don’t want you to go through vetting if it turns out we don’t have the types of jobs you’re looking for.
Your home page will already have a list of matches to roles that we think you might be a great fit for, given your role, skills, and work experience. You can also click the “star” icon on job listings to save them for viewing later.
Click “Apply,” set your hourly rate and availability, answer any questions the employer has and attach any files you would like to — it’s always a good idea to attach your resume, for example!
Press "send application,” and you will automatically start the screening process.
The screening process.
Braintrust screening starts with a 10 minute one-way video where you submit recordings to 4 questions. This is not a technical assessment — we simply want to learn more about you and your previous work experiences, and to better understand if you are a fit for the roles on our platform.
What do we look for?
- The ability to effectively communicate: Walk us through your previous experiences and the results of your efforts.
- A growth mindset: Make sure to include what challenges you have overcome and what you learned from them.
When will you find out whether you’ve been approved?
Your application will typically be reviewed within 24 hours — although it may take up to 72 hours if you submit your application on a Friday, over the weekend, or on some other non-typical work day, such as holidays.
Once your screening submission has been reviewed, you will receive an email with the outcome.
What comes next?
Our screening process allows us to ensure high quality work on the Braintrust network while continuing to serve the interests of both Talent and clients.
What happens if you are Approved?
If you are approved, you will receive a badge designating you as a vetted profile, and, most importantly, your applications will start being shown to clients! Becoming Approved Talent also comes with other benefits, including the ability to direct message Talent Matchers and clients through the messaging center on the platform.
What if I wasn't Approved?
If you are not approved, it is possible that you don’t quite meet the criteria for joining the network yet. When screening potential talent for our clients we are looking for a number of different criteria. Today, the criteria to become an Approved Talent includes:
- A detailed resume that showcases who you are as a candidate
- Technical skills that match the needs of our current clients. Read more about role types.
- Strong communication skills
- 3+ years of professional experience
- Ability to start working right away
- Ability to work on a W-2 or 1099 contract, or a C2C contract if you own your own LLC
After 6 months, if you feel like you meet the above criteria, you can elect to go through the screening process again. Simply update your Braintrust profile with your latest professional info, and email support@usebraintrust.com.
